Angie was born in Croydon, South
London where she lived with her parents and older sister, two dogs and a cat called "Kitty".
At school she was good at Latin, not so good at French, hopeless at maths, but loved music and tennis.
A keen musician, she learnt to play the piano, the organ, the guitar and the violin, which
she later swapped for the viola. At home she liked jazz as well as her classical music, and
still enjoys playing Cole Porter and George Gershwin on her piano.
Angie went on to read History at St Andrew's University in Scotland, where she met her
partner Nigel, and afterwards studied Radio Journalism at the London School of Printing.
She started her radio career at Radio 210 in Reading and then spent a year in Gibraltar
with British Forces Broadcasting, where she presented a daily three hour programme of music,
interviews and news. Back in London she joined LBC Radio, doing everything from reporting,
editing and reading the news, to producing and presenting a variety of programmes.
Always fascinated by politics, her next job was working for the Conservative Party,
first as broadcasting officer in the Press Office, then as Press Secretary to the Party
Chairman, Chris Patten. And in the 1997 general election she stood for Parliament as the
Conservative candidate in East Ham.
When the Greater London Authority was created in 2000 Angie saw a new political opportunity,
and was elected as the London Assembly member for London West Central, which covers Westminster,
Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham. She served on the London Assembly for eight years,
becoming leader of the Conservative Group, but gave up her seat in the 2008 London elections to
stand as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Ealing Central & Acton.
During her time on the Assembly Angie led the campaign against the Congestion Charge and its
extension to West London. She opposed the West London Tram and was an outspoken critic of the
financial arrangements between Mayor Ken Livingstone and the Labour Government which would leave
Londoners landed with huge bills in the event of an overspend on the London Olympics.
Angie lives in Southfield Ward in the heart of the new constituency. As a resident she understands
local problems and is actively involved in helping to sort them out. She's very much part of the
community and she and her partner Nigel enjoy walking their dogs on Acton Green and joining in all
the local happenings. Apart from politics she's a mad-keen tennis player, and still loves her
music and reading about history.
